THE CHANGE

I wanted someone to be the change,
As I was annoyed with everyone around,
I was sure, there won’t be a change,
But no one even dared to astound!

I wanted someone to be the change,
As I was annoyed with everyone around,
Hoping , no one will beat my hope,
The change was still unmoved on the ground.

‘Please try to be a change’
I requested  everyone I could,
Everyone had only one thing to say,
‘When no one changes, why I should?’

The reply pushed me into serious thinking,
It was indeed brainstorming for me,
As I sat there thinking away,
What possibly the change could be.

A beautiful answer popped up,
When I looked within me,
Why should I want others to be the change,
When I myself can be !

I know many will argue at it,
Saying it sounds very strange,
But I’ll keep chanting forever,
Change yourself, the world will change!

  1. True. Universal change must start from each and everyone of us. We can’t impose change to others, we don’t have that power, all we can do is to set and example and hope others will follow.
Great point – if you want to affect change in the world [or in a larger scale], first, begin by changing your own self.

  2. I love this. It is so educational. They are so many people in the world who are running around trying to change everyone around them instead of themselves. Everyone needs to read this. Great post! Keep it up!

  4. Wow Nikesh, you’ve done a great job indeed with this one. I always love your work. I’m sorry I have been so busy and stressed lately. But really this is true. If everyone was to work on themselves then the whole world would be different. Thanks for always being supportive of me, and don’t worry I am still going to be keeping up with your poems. – Emily

  6. This is a great poem with a wise message. I used to hear people complain about the state of the world, and say “They should do something about it!” I always wondered who “they” were, and why I rarely heard “We should do something about it.”
    Have you read Deepak Chopra?

  7. What a beautiful poem about “Change.” Your topic “Change” defines what all of us should strive to be every day because as you said in your poem, “Change yourself, the world will change!” That line itself should inspire us to be the change God wants us to be in the world and also be his light. Love your post!

  8. I love this. It reminds me of Dr. Seuss’ “Oh the place’s you’ll go.” Many people see him as a children’s author, but he wrote a lot for adults too. Your message, meter, and rhyme really make me think of it; it is one of my favorites. 🙂 Well done.

  9. Hi Nikesh
What a beautiful poem! So contemporary and apt in the present days . Everybody wants a change for the better but nobody wants to take the initiative . When we take the lead we find the others are ready to join hands and give support and strength .

      1. Yes , a very inspiring quote . It sets you thinking that why do you expect others to change when you yourself lack the will or quality .

  10. This piece is very well written and says the truth! Our thoughts are only that, thoughts and are not real so… if we change our thoughts we can changw our world. To maintain a positive attitude is to improve the world for everyone, not just ourselves. It can be as simple as that but for those who suffer from depression or other illnesses, it isn’t so easy. Going inside through sincere meditation is the best way to be able to realize and apply this truth. My wish if for all beings to become awake to their true nature and power. It is only through love that our world will change. Much love and peace to all. Michelle

  11. Couldn’t agree more. We keep blaming others and expecting them to change. However, all those others are drawn from the same society. If we want change, we have to do our bit first.

      1. Welcome, dear friend. My Master Sant Kirpal Singh also said: “Reformers are needed, not to reform others, but themselves…” and Gandhi said something similar: “Be the change if you want to see a change in the world…” Indeed the change starts with us and should not wait and see that others are doing this, when we can do it ourselves. . Then also responsibility will grow too.

Thank your, dear friend for this beautiful poem 🙂

        Have a great day.
        From heart to heart

      2. Thank you, dear friend 🙂 – and spirituality starts within, in our own Self according to: “Man know thyself” – When discovering all the tricks of our mind with its thousands of tentacles, then slowly slowy we start to understand it – and gradually it will not have any control and power over us, also with the grace of God.

I am really thankful for your poems and content therein – this message should really go around the world …

        Thank you.
